What Is Flood Insurance?
Flood Insurance is a type of Property Insurance that covers a dwelling or a Commercial Building for losses sustained by water damage specifically due to flooding. Homeowner policies do not offer flood protection, so a specific flood policy must be purchased in order to have this protection.
Floods may be caused by heavy or prolonged rain, melting snow, blocked storm drainage systems or levee dam failure. If you live where it rains, it can flood!
What Does Flood Insurance Cover?
Flood Policies have two types of coverage – building property and personal contents.
The Building Coverage can include the foundation, electrical and plumbing systems, air conditioning, furnaces and water heaters as well as appliances and permanently installed items like carpet, bookshelves and cabinets.
Personal Contents Coverage can include your personal items such as clothing, electronics and furniture and other types of owned property not fixed to the home.
